The joy of (re)discovery

Books460
For those that know me, they know I a big fan of gadgets and new technology in general. And if you know me really well you know will know I love reading. I always have. I think this was something instilled by my mother at young age. However the last few years I found myself reading less and less on a regular basis. I would like to blame having a short commute to work, or generally being busy with work as a reason not to finish the book I started many months ago. Anyway after my birthday last year I bought a Kindle from Amazon with a view to attempt getting back in to one of my favourite pastimes. This isn't about how brilliant the Kindle is, and I how I'm now loving reading again. Although it is, and I am.

A few weeks ago I was browsing the Kindle store trying to the next book to buy. Although I probably have at least 20 books on wishlist, I spent about an hour searching for something. I find what I want to read next is very dependent on my given mood. I eventually settled on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Le Carré. Anyway about a week later I was chatting to a friend on Messenger and they were talking about how they wanted to take some time out travel around Italy by car. I replied saying that perhaps they could do that but on a moped, such is the love of them in Italy. That made me think of a book I read a few years ago by Peter Moore called Vroom with a View. It's travel writing about a guy who after turning 40 buys a Vespa on eBay and then decides to drive around Italy. Straight away, this seemingly unrelated conversation reminded me how much I enjoyed that author's writing, and how much I love travel writing as genre. I've now got my next three books lined up to read thanks to that moment last week.

I don't know why this has stuck in my mind, other than it is little joys like this that make life memorable.
