Rowan Williams

The Arch Bishop of Canterbury fired a broadside at the coalition government today. He claimed that they were too busy blaming everything on the actions of the prior Labour government, and that they were forcing through long standing changes that no one voted for. Reading the article, he makes some fairly valid points, but I don’t know enough as to whether he is right or not. I will have to take it on faith (sic).

George Osbourne, a man who looks like some sex doll that has learnt to speak, responded to these accusations :

"This government was elected to tackle the UK's deep-rooted problems. Its clear policies on education, welfare, health and the economy are necessary to ensure we're on the right track."

WTF? Clear policies? They're having a laugh aren't they? There is so much consultation, white papering, listening exercise BS going on I have no idea what is happening. I can’t tell if the Government has reneged on the NHS or not. It is like we the populace are being bombarded with so much flak, and other news, we might not notice something important. Like Cameron and his cronies tip toeing away like some Vaudevillian caped menace.

If only David Cameron had been the one to come out in defence of the coalition…we could have had :  David Cameron is caught bashing his bishop - that would surely be the headline of the century! Instead we have George Osbourne bashing his bishop…which is to be expected.

Now I do like Rowan Williams, he comes across like how I imagine a mad hermit from the middle ages might look, but only if he was covered in mud. Every time I have seen him on a science programme, he never seems to be against the idea of seeking deeper truths about the universe. I also think you can tell a moral person, and he seems that to me. Someone who gets great strength from his faith, but is also aware that the world has changed since then.

What a pity then that Williams is such a namby pamby orator when it comes to standing up to the homophobic bigots in his own organisation. It is easy to fire broadsides at external parties, another thing entirely to have conviction in your beliefs and take on your own structure. I wonder where was the church when it came to Britain’s arms trade and exporting death with its army? I do love the irony though that a man from the church is talking to us about uncomfortable truths.
