Just a very quick reaction to Amazon’s new product launch this morning. As expected the new $199, 7” Kindle Fire tablet was launched. This was probably the worst kept secret in the industry but the one surprise was the announcement of the Kindle Silk (terrible name) browser which is supposed to making the browsing experience better by doing the rendering backend using Amazon’s EC2 cloud technology. Sounds interesting but would like to see some reviews of this in practice.

Some other nice surprises Jeff Bezos had up his sleeve was a revamp of the e-reader line. There are now two touch-screen devices, which means an even smaller device to carry around. At the bottom end, Amazon are launching a non-touch device for only $79 which should really make the Kindle a truly mass-market device this Christmas.

All in all, this was a good product launch with something for everything. I think this will only strengthen the already strong Kindle brand.
