I really doesn’t matter, or does it?
It has been an absolutely horrible fortnight for any fan of Arsenal Football Club. Out of 3 competitions, almost an entire first team out with injuries, and a bunch of understudies who seem to lack the will to fight. After each of our losses, there has been a growing tide of anger. Anger for the fans who have paid £50 a go to watch this team of underachievers (I am not one of them, I have only gone to a couple of games this season). Anger for those who pay the highest season ticket prices to be fobbed off with next year is our year, this team will develop etc. People have paid their dues, and Wenger’s lies won’t cut it any more. Diaby and Denilson, Rosicky and Bendtner, none of these mugs should be anywhere near the first team.
Yet no one is holding Wenger to account, and year on year, we have to hear the same lies from all around the club. There is money to spend, we’ll challenge, these players have matured, things will change if we don’t win anything. I don’t believe any of that anymore. If I habitually failed to do the job I am required to do, I would be disciplined, and then fired. Instead we have a bunch of Wenger flunkies at the club, who see the company that Arsenal is, performing well financially, and so who cares about the results. Who cares? The fans! The ones who give you their hard earned money! Hopefully the fans will start protesting with their feet. You watch the lesser games, and you can see all the empty seats. They then announce attendance, and it is always nearly 60k, yet you can see that this isn’t true. This will only get worse if we are subjected to high prices for tickets (I hear there is a 6% hike coming next year), to see the same dross. Will they sign someone? No, because Wenger cares more about the careers of players who don’t deserve his loyalty, than he does the fans who pay his and everyone else’s wages.
Recently, a friend of mine called me a fair weather fan. He questioned what kind of a person I was for avoiding or not watching Arsenal games. As a Spurs fan, I am sure his ‘loyalty’ has been tested, but he misses the point. I still like watching the game, especially when played well, what I don’t like is this slow strangulation of the club. I don’t even think it is the results that bothers me. It is the behaviour of the club and the manager. If I saw a team of players who cared half as much as Jack Wilshire, then I wouldn’t mind if we lost. But watching Denilson lose possession, and then half heartedly trot back makes me mad! You are in a cup and you can’t be bothered? Maybe because you are on some fat wage which means you don’t care. Why would you? It is just a job to you. Diaby in the papers talking about Barcelona or Real. HAHAHAHA! I would love to see that, it would be like sending a double agent into their ranks to cock things up for them! Fabregas must look around him and think, ‘I used to play with Vieira, Bergkamp, Henry, Pires….and now look at what I have to play with!’
I feel like giving up for the rest of the season, I don’t care if we win or lose anymore. I don’t care if my friends think I am a weak fan. Or that they are better than me as a result of their loyalty. It is a game! It has no bearing on my life, so why should I let it make me sad? Worst thing is, come Saturday, I will trawl the internet to watch it on a stream, or listen to it.
An earthquake off the coast of Japan has destroyed the lives of thousands, and impacted a whole nation. These other people's lives have been changed forever. These things are important. The lack of heart by a football team, and the club that surrounds them will matter not one iota in the grand scheme of things.Their triumphs don’t transfer to me, so why should their losses? May the weight of their failure crush them, and let us see who comes out the other side.
