Grinds my gears
Cycled to work today for the first time since I started my new job. Wasn't too bad since you asked... About 35 minutes from Crouch End to Waterloo. It's been a while since I cycled to work and I had somehow managed to forgot how much other cyclists wind me up. Since I love made up statistics, I would say about 90% of cyclists don't bother stopping at red lights. As well as a cyclist, I am also a car driver from time to time so I would like to think I can offered a balanced opinion on this.
The way I see it, a red light is a red light regardless of whether you're on two wheels or four. I'm not sure what gives some cyclists the right to flagrantly ignore them as if they don't apply to them. Sorry, have you got somewhere to be so urgently that you can't stop for a minute?! There's a reason they're there: to let pedestrians cross the road, to control traffic, etc. Al ot of cyclists complain about the treatment they receive from the other road users; cars, taxis, buses and vans; and I am sure there is probably a fair complaint to be had however it is a two way-street. Cyclists need to respect the rules of the road otherwise critics will always use this stick to beat them with.
Anyway, to quote Rocky 4 (as I am known to do): "I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change."
