Fun while it lasted
Disappointment was inevitable, after the first leg of the quarter-final at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Having lost 0-4, the rational side of you knows the game is up and so it came to pass last night at White Hart Lane. Let me be the first to say we were clearly beaten by the better side across two legs.
That said, I thought we played pretty well last night despite the error from Gomes. We played direct football with pace, and created chances. The second half was end to end and must have been a good game for the neutral to watch. It did give an idea of what the two-legged tie could have been if we have managed to keep 11 players on the pitch in Madrid.
It is a shame that our participation in this season’s European Cup had to come to an end but we have seen some great victories, against world famous opposition. Now we have a taste of Champions League football, it would be hugely disappointing not to feature next season. Hopefully we can go on a run as we did at this point last season after our FA Cup semi-final exit to Portsmouth. It doesn’t get much harder though with our next game against Arsenal...
